There are places that feel sacred the moment you arrive. Grand Teton National Park is one of them, and having a Grand Teton elopement might be the best way to celebrate your love.

The way the Tetons rise unapologetically from the valley floor. The way the light spills over the peaks at sunrise. The stillness. The scale. The reminder that love – like these mountains – is steady, powerful, and enduring.

If you’re dreaming of an intentional, adventurous, deeply meaningful wedding day… eloping in Grand Teton National Park might be exactly what your heart has been looking for.

As a hybrid digital + film Grand Teton elopement photographer who believes your wedding should feel like you, I’m here to walk you through everything you need to know.

Eloping in Wyoming

There are so many beautiful places to elope. If you’re looking for epic views, fantastic food, and adventures you’re sure to remember forever, eloping in Wyoming might be the best option for you. Below you will find the ultimate guide for eloping in Wyoming, and specifically within Grand Teton National Park. As a Wyoming elopement photographer, I can help you plan your Wyoming elopement, from first look to last light.

Why Elope in The Grand Tetons?

For the wildly in love, the sentimental, and the ones who feel most alive in the mountains.

Did you know of the 325.5 million visits to national parks in 2023, 3.4 million of those were to Grand Teton National Park? This park spans about 310,000 acres of land. It is home to many different species of trees and wildlife, boasts beautiful streams and lakes, and is covered in miles and miles of endless views to enjoy.

The Beautiful Views

The Grand Tetons are the youngest mountains in the Rockies, forming only about 6-9 million years ago. (The best way to determine if a mountain range is young or old is to look at how sharp the peaks are!)

Jagged peaks. Alpine lakes. Wildflower meadows. Wide open skies. There is no “bad backdrop” here.

You can have an Intimate Elopement – even in a National Park

With the right planning (and the right timing), you can find quiet, secluded locations that feel like the mountains belong to just the two of you.

It invites experience over performance.

Your wedding day becomes a memory in motion. Hiking together. Laughing in the wind. Holding hands at the edge of an overlook. It’s less about a timeline and more about being fully present.

It’s perfect for adventurous, sentimental couples.

If you care more about meaning than tradition… if you’d rather watch the sun rise over the Tetons than walk down a ballroom aisle… this might be your place.

When Should You Elope in Grand Teton National Park?

The best time of year to elope in Grand Teton National Park depends on your favorite season truly.

The Tetons are stunning year-round – but each season tells a different story.

Summer (Late June – September)

Wildflowers bloom in July. Trails are fully accessible. Sunrise and sunset light is golden and dreamy. This is peak season – so sunrise ceremonies are often best for privacy.

Best for: hiking elopements, lake views, vibrant greenery.

Fall (Late September – October)

Crisp air. Golden aspens. Fewer crowds. Cooler mornings (bring layers).

Best for: cozy, earthy, romantic tones and more privacy.

Winter (November – April)

Snow-covered peaks. Cross-country skiing or snowshoe elopements. Extremely peaceful and quiet. Very cold – but incredibly magical.

Best for: intimate, snowy, cinematic elopements.

Spring (May – Early June)

Unpredictable weather. Some road closures. Fewer visitors.

Best for: couples who don’t mind flexibility and want quieter landscapes.

Steps to Eloping in Grand Teton National Park

Apply for your permit

To elope in Grand Teton National Park, you’ll need:

  • A Special Use Permit for your ceremony.
  • A Wyoming marriage license (no waiting period required).
  • An officiant (unless you choose a self-solemnizing option, depending on legal route).
  • Guest counts are limited depending on location. Certain areas require designated ceremony sites.

This is where having an experienced elopement photographer and planner matters – I help my couples navigate permits, location scouting, timeline creation, and logistics so you can focus on being present.

Some quick tips: Submit your application along with the $200 fee with a minimum of 30 days before your date to grte_spu_permits@nps.gov. Once the park processes your permit, you must sign it and return it within 7 days via email. The park will email your final permit back to you. Be sure to have a printed copy with you on hand on the day of your wedding.

You and your guests are responsible for your entrance fees. You can waive the entrance fees with national parks pass.
