As a North Carolina wedding photographer, I’ve seen it all – chaotic wedding days, smooth wedding days, wedding days that were laid back, and wedding days that were planned out down to the minute.

My biggest tip when beginning the planning process is to hire the right team to successfully carry out your wedding day vision.

About Amy

How did you get started in your career?

My career has taken a somewhat unconventional path. Before entering the wedding industry, I worked in hospitality, yachting,  and event management. It all started when I was planning events on yachts and in the Hamptons, I realized how much I loved it and decided to try and build my own business out of it.

What makes your approach different from other planners?

I approach weddings through both a hospitality and logistics lens. Beautiful design is important, but so is creating an experience that feels effortless for the couple and their guests. My goal is not simply to plan a beautiful wedding, but to ensure every person involved feels cared for, every detail is accounted for, and the couple can truly enjoy the experience from start to finish.

What has been your biggest challenge during your career?

One of the biggest challenges of running a wedding planning business has been balancing the work of serving clients while also creating consistent content and managing social media. As a business owner, you’re not only planning weddings and supporting couples, but also handling marketing, networking, operations, finances, and everything in between. It can be challenging to step away from client work to document projects and create content, but I’ve learned that sharing our work and connecting with future couples is an important part of growing the business. Finding that balance is something I’m continually working on.

What’s a goal you’re currently working toward?

Continuing to grow The White Rose Co.’s destination wedding portfolio, particularly throughout the Bahamas and along the East Coast. I love helping couples create meaningful celebrations in incredible locations and am always looking for opportunities to expand that side of the business.

What aspect do you enjoy the most about your business?

The relationships. I have the privilege of walking alongside couples during one of the most exciting seasons of their lives. Being trusted with such an important milestone is something I never take for granted.

What does life look like when you are “off the clock”?

You’ll usually find me spending time with my husband and our two dogs, exploring new places, hiking, camping, or planning our next adventure. I love being outdoors, traveling, and finding hidden gems, whether that’s a mountain town, a quiet beach, or a great local restaurant.

About Amy’s Role as a Wedding Planner

What is something people assume about your role that is completely wrong?

That it’s just a job.

Of course wedding planning is my profession, but for most planners I know, it’s also something we’re genuinely passionate about. We invest so much of ourselves into our couples, their families, and their celebrations. We celebrate the wins, problem-solve the challenges, and spend months getting to know the people we’re working with.

By the wedding day, we’re not simply showing up to do a job; we’re deeply invested in making sure the day is everything our couples hoped it would be. There’s a level of care, emotion, and dedication behind the scenes that many people don’t realize exists.

What do you wish more couples understood before starting the planning process?

That planning a wedding is really a series of decisions. The sooner you establish your priorities, budget, and overall vision, the easier every decision that follows becomes.

What’s the most meaningful feedback you’ve ever received from a couple?

The feedback I value most is when couples tell me they felt genuinely cared for throughout the planning process. Weddings are about so much more than logistics and timelines- they’re deeply personal milestones. Knowing that I helped make the experience enjoyable, exciting, and far less stressful is what makes this work so rewarding.

What’s something unusual that you love to see at weddings?

Unexpected personality. Whether it’s a surprise late-night snack, a beer-loving wedding party making an unforgettable entrance, a grandmother leading the dance floor, or a ring bearer taking his role as “ring security” very seriously, those personal touches are often the moments guests remember most.

What’s one thing couples often overlook that they shouldn’t?

The guest experience. Long after guests forget the flowers or table linens, they’ll remember how the day felt. Clear communication, comfortable seating, good food, thoughtful timelines, and meaningful moments all contribute to an unforgettable celebration.

If you could leave couples with one piece of advice before their wedding day, what would it be?

Let go of perfection. Something will inevitably happen that wasn’t part of the original plan, and chances are your guests will never know. Focus on being present, soaking in the moments, and celebrating with the people you love. Those are the memories you’ll carry with you long after the wedding is over.
